What to watch for this week:

DEI discussions

This Thursday evening, from 6:30-8 p.m., Wickliffe will be celebrating its 50th anniversary of progressive/informal education with an open house.

Several the foundational principles of progressive educational programs go hand-in-hand with Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion initiatives and Wickliffe's DEI committee will keep these front-and-center as we plan ahead:

  • We raise social consciousness by encouraging the school community to examine and act upon complex issues within a democratic society.

  • We respect diversity among children and variation in their development.

  • We collaborate with colleagues and parents as co-educators to meet children’s needs.

  • We facilitate ongoing reflection and self-evaluation by children and adults.

You can read all 10 of Wickliffe's Foundational Principles here

We want to hear from you!

The Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) committee would love input from you! Just fill out this quick survey or contact us at WickliffeDEI@gmail.com. Also consider joining us at our monthly meetings the third Thursday of every month (except December) at 5:30 at Wickliffe.

We are in the final stretch of what is expected to be a very close campaign.  This levy is about charting the best path forward for our schools, kids, and community and not looking backwards.

Early voting has started! Please, please cast your vote and remind your friends and family to do the same! Early voting can be done at the Franklin County Board of Elections 1700 Morse Rd Columbus, 43229. Every vote counts!

If you would like to do more, you can donate your time! Volunteers are needed on election day. There are 3 different roles that need to be filled: Greeters, Poll Checkers and Callers.  If you wish to donate your time you can sign up to do so on the link below.

Guess who's back? Coffee Cart is back!

Cooler weather calls for hot coffee, tea, and treats for our dedicated Wickliffe staff. One of the core offerings of the Staff Appreciation Committee is the Coffee Cart. We make coffee and tea, gather treats and snacks, and then travel throughout the school to share with all staff. It’s a small but important way to show our educators our immense appreciation for all they do (and help them sneak in a little caffeine!).

We will kick off the coffee cart on Wednesday, November 2, from 7:45 a.m. - 9:15 a.m. and are in search of volunteers to help with a morning shift (making coffee, stocking the cart, and walking it around to the classrooms). Can’t join us in person? You can also support by making an early morning donut run. Lots of ways to get involved! Contact Marjie.Bland@gmail.com if you’re interested in helping!

Interior design expertise wanted!

Do you have an eye for design? A knack for making spaces more inviting, cozy, or exciting? The Wickliffe PTO Staff Appreciation Committee would like to spruce up the teacher’s lounge, and we could use your help! Thanks to all who have donated supplies and other items, and we’re now well on our way to making this space as special as our amazing Wickliffe staff. We just need that extra support from you! A volunteer with expertise in interior design can support by providing guidance on the placement of items, new items to purchase or request, and other general design best practices you might be willing to share. This is an opportunity to give back to the school using your expertise and on your schedule!

Interested, reaching out to Marjie.Bland@gmail.com for more information.

Veterans Day town meeting at Wickliffe

Wickliffe wants to honor veterans on Veterans Day (Friday, November 11). Is there a veteran in your family or do you know of someone who has served or is serving in the military? If so, please complete the google form (linked below).

Veterans and their families are invited to breakfast and coffee provided by the PTO between 8:00 and 8:30am.  Then we ask them to join in our school town meeting at 8:30 in seats of honor.  At the conclusion of town meeting, they may go back to their student's classroom to introduce themselves and say hello.

If you have more than one veteran, please fill out the survey for each veteran.

Wickliffe students can bring in nonperishable food items all year long to benefit the Heart to Heart Food Pantry. The pantry is in particular need of peanut butter, jelly, spaghetti sauce, syrup, and canned soup, although any nonperishable items are welcome. Toiletries and diapers are also always helpful. Donation boxes will be located in each neighborhood and at the school entrance. We will deliver donations on a monthly basis. If you have any questions, please contact Amy Miller at ajmiller@uaschools.org or Sarah Oberlin at soberlin@uaschools.org. BoxTop for Education

BoxTop for Education

Dear Families,

Are you looking for a quick and easy way to support our school?

Box Tops for Education has been around for over 25 years, and it really can make a difference. In fact, the Box Tops program has helped give almost one billion dollars to schools since 1996.

The Box Tops app gives participants the ability to earn for any school across the country with just the touch of a button. Plus, the Box Tops app allows you to search for schools that could use a little extra help, so you can help give students in low-income schools the opportunity to succeed.
