What to watch for this week: |
Big week It was wonderful seeing so many families come out to support the UAHS marching band on Friday night. I know my family had a blast, especially doing script BEARS, and hope you did too!
We have our first Restaurant Night tonight at Dewey's Pizza in Grandview. Mention the Wickliffe PTO when placing an order and 20% of the proceeds will be donated back to the PTO.
We also have our first big PTO-sponsored event, the Fall Festival, coming up this Friday night. We hope you can join us at the school from 6-8 p.m. I know they are still looking for volunteers to run the activity stations and to drop off treats for the treat walk. More information is below and in the Sign Up Genius.

After School Discovery enrichment program |
|
After School Discovery registrations closed on Monday, and we could use a few more volunteers to help guide safe dismissal of the students. It is a very short 30-minute volunteer slot, from 3:45-4:15 p.m. Whether you can volunteer only one afternoon or a regular series of afternoons, we welcome your help! We especially need help Tuesdays and Fridays. If you are already going to be picking your child up from a course, it would not require that much additional time, and would really help us out! Please sign up here.

Wickliffe students are invited to participate in a year-long food drive benefiting Heart to Heart Food Pantry. We would like the children to bring non-perishable food items beginning Monday. They are in particular need of peanut butter, jelly, spaghetti sauce, syrup, and canned soup, although any non-perishable items are welcome. Toiletries and diapers are also always helpful. Donation boxes will be located in each neighborhood and at the school entrance. We will deliver donations on a monthly basis. If you have any questions, please contact Amy Miller at ajmiller@uaschools.org or Sarah Oberline at soberlin@uaschools.org. For more information about Heart to Heart or to volunteer, visit their website at http://h2h.fcchurch.com/

Hello families! Lots of updates this week! Classroom Guidance We have had a great September so far. K/1’s are learning all about feelings and how there are no “bad” feelings, just uncomfortable/comfortable ones. Be on the lookout for a colored heart worksheet where your children colored the feelings that are in their own hearts. In 2/3 classrooms we are discussing “size of the problem,” comparing problem sizes to weather intensity! In 4th/5th classes we are discussing coping skills for various feelings: sadness, worry, angry, etc. I will always send home a parent letter on days that I am in your child’s classroom outlining what we did. Start With Hello Week One way we are celebrating our District commitment to student and staff well-being is by celebrating Start with Hello during the week of September 19-23, 2022. Start with Hello is a week dedicated to making new social connections by engaging in conversation with one another to create a sense of belonging among young people. Start with Hello gives us an opportunity to practice engaging in conversation with one another and celebrating the importance of inclusive connections. In our school community, you may notice or hear your student talking about wearing name tags, saying hello to others, writing welcome messages on the blacktop and glass, or learning about being inclusive in morning meetings, all of which provides an opportunity to connect compassionately and show an appreciation for new and future friends.
